Fees and payouts

What a sale costs

Norpex charges a commission on the item price: 15% for items under $5,000, 10% for items $5,000 and over, calculated on the item price after the processing fee is taken out. Norpex may agree a different rate with a seller in writing.

The seller also pays the card processing fee: 2.9% plus $0.30 of everything the buyer pays — the item, the delivery and the tax — because that is what the card company charges on. The buyer is never charged a processing fee. Both amounts are deducted from the payout and shown on each sale. There is no listing fee and no monthly fee.

A worked example

An item listed at $1,000.00, delivered for $150.00 to a buyer in Ontario (13% HST, $149.50). The buyer pays $1,299.50.

  • Processing fee (2.9% of $1,299.50 + $0.30): $37.99
  • Commission (15% of $962.01): $144.30
  • Payout: $817.71
  • The delivery goes to the carrier and the tax to the government; neither is part of the payout.

When the payout happens

Norpex holds the payment. After delivery, or pickup, the buyer has 3 business days to report a problem. If none is reported, Norpex releases the payout to the seller's Stripe account.

A new seller's first 3 sales are paid 14 days after delivery instead, as on other marketplaces.

Getting it to your bank

Stripe pays the payout to the seller's bank account on Stripe's own schedule.

Refunds and chargebacks

If a sale is refunded, the seller's commission and processing fee on that sale are not charged.

If the buyer's bank disputes the card payment (a chargeback) before the payout, the payout is held until the dispute is decided. If it comes after the payout, or a refund does, Norpex takes that payout back from the seller's Stripe balance, and Stripe debits the seller's connected bank account if that balance cannot cover it. If Norpex wins the dispute, the payout is sent again.
