Opening a restaurant

Should I buy new or used restaurant equipment?

Short answer

New usually makes sense for equipment that works hard and is costly to repair, such as refrigeration, ice machines and fryers, where a manufacturer's warranty matters. Used can make sense for simple stainless items like work tables, sinks and shelving, or for a tight opening budget, as long as you inspect it and accept that it usually carries little or no manufacturer warranty.

New equipment sold by Norpex carries the manufacturer's warranty, passed through in full, with terms that vary by manufacturer and product line. That coverage is most valuable on machines with compressors, electronic controls and pumps.

With used equipment, check the age, the data plate, the gas type and voltage, and whether parts are still available for the model. A refrigerated unit should run long enough to show it reaches and holds temperature before you rely on it.

Used equipment is sold separately in the Norpex marketplace, including rent-to-own units through Econolease, if you want to compare both routes.
